REVIEW - LA LA LAND

"A bit of madness is the key.
to give us new colours to see
who knows where it will lead us...

Here's to the fools who dream
crazy as they may seem
here's to the heart that break
here's to mess we make... "

From the director of Whiplash, a musical bitter-sweet love story wrapped with amazing cinematography and blissful play with color and with awesome editing. Damien Chazelle once again hits the high score with What an Opening Scene! by Another day of SUN!

City of stars... Are you shinning just for me?

Well it's not just a song, how can it just be a song! Or better question is, how can this film be just a film? It's a journey. A journey of everyone's life. Every fool who dreams or lives in a dream or chases dream. Every one who makes mess with an aching heart.

Today we are going to share the experience of the Oscar and Golden Globe winning movie LA LA land. No one simply gets 6 Oscars if not this big.

The opening scene you will realize that even the traffic jam has its rhythm, with help of a genius named Justin Hurwitz(music composed and orchestrated). No! no more spoilers about the scene. All that necessary is, opening scene itself creates a high expectation from the movie, and you won't be disappointed.

Mia, a struggling actor. Sebastian, crazy about Jazz and his dream is someday he is going to open a club where only jazz will be played.
Now as life goes on through various / crucial downs Mia finally losses hope and plans to quite her dream. She is near to the believe that she needs to change the dream or give up. While her boyfriend was quite successful in jazz band. Well even though he was not particularly living his own dream( role played by John Legend, submerges Sebastian with success, crowd, wealth)!

Emma Stone - Her expressive eyes, flawless moves and the marvelous way she has carried every outfit of Mia, will definitely make you believe that Mia and Emma stone are inseparable.
"The audition" song she sang was recorded in real time with expression like that! You will get to know why she won Oscar for best actress and Golden Globe.

In the role of Sebastian - Ryan Gosling has proven to be smart, witty, handsome and let's face the reality no better match can be for the character. Ryan specially learnt jazz piano for the movie and he nailed it. After sick funny romance with Emma in "Crazy Stupid Love" and thrilling romance in"Gangster Squad" the pair just have played original story telling entities in this movie. When Ryan Come out to sing City of Stars, he shows the level of acting skill with the expressions and the flawless moves. The music crew shows how a short fiction of shoe with bridge floor, a trick with hat, a gentle slap  would sound like even if it put with the rhythm of a song.

The designers and cinematographers have played with colour throughout the movie. From the beginning you will see that Mia is wearing all vibrant colours but as she grows up with the reality the colours somehow fades. In the end we see her with pure black outfit as she is dwelling with the deep realty of life symbolizing all the colors are mixed together.

The director, that guy! Know how old is he!? Only 32 and he has touched and broke our heart rebuilt it and filled with hope within only 2.08 hrs. Good god! this guy is a genius. One thing this guy knows the best. He knows how to play with your emotions let it be Whiplash or La La Land.

As the name suggests, the whole story of the movie has taken place in LA with touch of old LA. Yes the city of angles is the city of stars and beautiful landscapes. The film contains a slit of Paris, when the love and dream contaminates with each other and gives a fight to each other.

That ending. God! that heart smashing - cracking - puncturing - crushing - quashing - crumbling - Life could have been ending with slightest touch of old (gold) Hollywood. No words, not a single word for it. Although you will thank the director, to the music composure, editor, many other "musical termed important people" thanks for the perfection. Well the music and lyrics are are so simple, so strong that it refuses to leave your mind even after one month.

It mast has been so hard for the director to use the same crew for Whiplash and after that, making this film. Both has jazz in common, both film is massive in its own sense but both has proven to be differed like heaven and hell.

It's been quite soulful of the director to cast J J Simmons to play the role of club manager.

Why would you watch the movie?

Now I will give you reasons -

Oscars !

Golden globes !

The youngest director to receive the best director in Academy awards!

Awesome cinematography !

Awesome choreography !

Awesome music!

Awesome Script!

The same crew for which Damien earned academy award for editing, supporting actor, sound mixing and the same crew fetched 6 Oscars. They did own Academy award for best picture for a while.

And a rejected script, rejected for five long years, that script when came into the movies did a blast. The movie will crush your heart not by romance but by its intense depicting with life of every dreamers.

Every scene every move and every spot tells a story itself.
